The Story of Chernabog Designs

Before coming to Japan I had seen images of fun and unique manhole covers, most of them were big name properties such as Pokemon or Gundam. However, after coming to Japan, my eyes were opened to the truly vast world of unique manhole cover design. Not only were you able to see characters we all love on the these covers but also designs that told a story about the area you were in. It was then that I really dove head first into that new world. I loved to go on adventures around Japan to find new manhole cover designs where I would photograph and catalog them for my own enjoyment.

 

After some time I came up with the idea to share my love of these designs with others in Japan and beyond. Utilizing the medium of clothing, I was found a way to express my own vision while maintaining the original charm of the designs. If nothing else, I hope those that find my clothing will also gain a greater appreciation for these manhole covers and the stories they have to tell.
