The Inception of an Icon

In the earliest times of man, there was one impulse that drove the species to persist. despite an ever-growing number of threats that endangered man's very survival. That impulse was to dig, dig holes and create intricate tunnel systems that ran beneath the ground. With the momentous feat realized, man began to wonder what drove this impulse and set to study himself to find the answer. In the end, there was really only one answer. In this massive tunnel system, there should be water. Water that flowed, water that was stagnant, and most importantly water that contained large alligators that somehow grew to unimaginable sizes in such a small and unforgiving environment. It was during the proliferation of these alligators that man decided he needed something that he could use to cover the hole openings to these tunnels to keep the gigantic alligators at bay. However, man knew he must also be able to remove these covers in case something needed to be fixed in the tunnels, or it was one of the alligator royal family's birthday (don't ask). Man toiled for hundreds or minutes to perfect the optimal device for this important job. What you see featured on my apparel today is the result of that effort put forth so many millennia ago. So next time you are walking down the street and you see one of these breathtaking manhole covers, just remember what you learned here today.
